After making an appearance in court on a weapon’s charge, Rudy Jeanne, a 32-year-old St. Thomas motorist, was ordered Monday to turn in his driver’s license.
Jeanne is charged with possessing an illegal firearm within 1,000 feet of a public housing community.
Jeanne was arrested mid-May. Superior Court Magistrate Judge Carolyn Hermon-Purcell advised him of his rights on Monday, declaring there was enough evidence in the case to uphold the weapons charge and an additional charge for allegedly possessing ammunition illegally.
Hermon-Purcell told the defendant if found guilty on the charges he could face up to 20 years in prison and a maximum $25,000 fine. At the end of Monday’s hearing Jeanne was released on his own recognizance and ordered to surrender his driver’s license.
Arraignment is set for 9:30 a.m. June 9. Because of current social distancing restrictions, criminal defendants are making their court appearances electronically.
