St. Thomas police arrested John R. Kuhl, 34, Thursday, and charged him with aggravated assault and battery domestic violence for hitting his girlfriend on her face and legs while they were staying at a resort on the island.
Kuhl, of Lake Road, New York, was denied bail due to the nature of the crime. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
