VIPD Investigating Shooting in Hospital Ground, Armed Robbery

St. Thomas police are investigating a non-fatal shooting in Hospital Ground that put one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.

Shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday, detectives were sent to the Schneider Regional Medical Center to interview the 23 year old victim, who told police that he was driving near Goat Street in the mid-afternoon when he heard several shots.

The unnamed man said after hearing the shots he realized he had been shot in his lower back; he was taken to Schneider to be treated for his injuries.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. the same day, two men were robbed of their jewelry at gunpoint by two unknown males wearing white shirts and black masks, according to a V.I. Police Department news release. The suspects then fled the area on foot.

Both cases remain under active investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 714-9834, 715-5522 or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
