Lady Nix, Llacos are Winners in Bush League Softball Action

There were three games played Sunday in the St. Croix Softball Association Modified Pitch Softball Bush League at D.C. Canegata Ballpark. Two of the games were contested in the female division with Nuff Experience and Thymes playing to 7-7 draw, and Lady Nix getting by Hi Haterz, 6-2. In the lone game played in the men’s division, the Llacos whipped the Spartans 11-6.

Nuff Experience 7, Thymes 7
In Sunday’s opening game, the Thymes and Nuff Experience were deadlocked at seven runs apiece at the end of regulation time, and both teams had to settle for an atypical draw. Nuff Experience finished with seven runs on seven hits and one error, while the Thymes had seven runs on four hits and three errors. The top batter for Nuff Experience was Sheila Gumbs (2 for 3 with two RBIs), while Thymes’ Julissa James was also 2 for 3.

Lady Nix 6, Hi Haterz 2
Behind veteran hurler Marie Encarnacion, Lady Nix outlasted Hi Haterz, 6-2, in the second game of the afternoon. It was Lady Nix with six runs on 11 hits and two errors, while Hi Haterz finished with two runs on nine hits and three errors. Jenna Castro got the loss on the hill for Hi Haterz. Top batters for the winners were Jewel Velez (3 for 3), Rashida Rawlins (2 for 3) and Andrea Arndell (2 for 3 with one RBI). For the Haterz, Castro was 2 for 4, and Lasaunda Stevens was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Llacos 11, Spartans 6
Sunday’s nightcap contested in the men’s division saw the Llacos overpower the Spartans 11-6. Juan Montanes got the win on the hill for the Llacos, while Jose Rivera got the loss. The Llacos finished with 11 runs on nine hits, while the Spartans finished with six runs on nine hits.

Top batters for the winners were Javier Encarnacion, (2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs), Jose Rivera (1 for 2 with a homerun and two RBIs) and Arthur Canaii, (2 for 2 with two RBIs). For the Spartans, Otoneil Pereira was 3 for 3 with one RBI, Juan Velez 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Ismael Robles was 2 for 3.

The action continues in the Bush League on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at D.C. Canegata Ballpark.
