Crime Stoppers Needs Your Help

Crime Stoppers is asking the public’s help in solving the following crimes. Even the smallest bit of information may be just what law enforcement needs to solve these cases.
• St. Croix At about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct., a 55-year old man was brutally attacked and robbed at gun point by three men in the Whites Bay Area. Two attackers were described as slim and one as heavyset. All three were about 21 to 25 years of age. Anyone who heard any unusual noises, saw people in the area, or knows anything about this attack, is urged to call immediately.
• St. John Police are requesting the community’s assistance in solving several burglaries in the area of Carolina. Items stolen from homes include laptop computers, PDAs, and TVs. Anyone with any information or observing anyone selling these items, is urged to call.
• St. Thomas Police are requesting the community’s help in finding the man who assaulted and robbed an elderly woman at her Wintberg home at about 3 p.m. Oct. 15. The man tied her up, struck her head with a hammer and took her money before fleeing.
Community members can submit tips to Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). The tips are anonymous and the stateside operators are bilingual. Tipsters can also submit tips online at www.CrimeStoppersUSVI.org or by texting “USVI” plus your message to CRIMES (274637). If a tip leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property or illegal drugs, the tipster receives a cash reward to be paid according to their instructions. Only anonymous callers to Crime Stoppers are eligible for these cash rewards.
Crime Stoppers reports that tips have resulted in 64 arrests and the recovery of 37 illegal weapons since January. Anyone who submitted a tip can check to see if he or she is entitled to a cash reward, as unclaimed rewards expire six months after the award date. Crime Stoppers USVI is run entirely by volunteers and is financed by membership dues and sponsor contributions. Contributions to the rewards fund can be made by visiting the service’s website at www.CrimeStoppersUSVI.org.
