R. L. SCHNEIDER HOSPITAL SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

May 12, 2002 – During National Hospital week, the Roy L. Schneider Hospital has put out a special call for volunteers.
Community members are invited to volunteer as "patient advocates." These persons help by supporting, providing information to, caring for, and assisting patients. And gentleman helpers are wanted, too, said a release from Christine Lewis, director of patient relations.
The hospital book cart service is back, as of May 8th (see Source story in Community/ Other stuff section). Organized jointly by the Friends of the St. Thomas Public Libraries and the Inner Wheel Gift Shop, the service seeks volunteers through the hospital patient relations department.
Also needed are donations of books and current (newer than 3 months old) magazines. These can be brought to the patient relations department, left in the hospital cafeteria, or contact volunteer Margo Heikkila at 775-5387.
To volunteer either as a patient advocate or library book cart "driver," call Lewis at 776-8311 ext. 2165.
