OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix is reminding residents that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
To commemorate the victims of domestic violence and raise awareness of the issue, the Women’s Coalition urges people to wear a purple ribbon throughout the month of October. Ribbons are available at Thomas Bakery in Frederiksted; Caribbean Health and Racquet Club at Beeston Hill; Sam Goody and Wendy’s at Sunny Isle; Ferdi’s Forest on Northside Road; Solitude Store on the East End; Women’s Business Center in Gallows Bay and the Women’s Coalition office in Christiansted.
The Coalition also urges people to contribute to its shelter "wish list." Bring items such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, batteries, kitchen utensils and paper goods to businesses such as The Buccaneer Hotel, Trader Bob’s Bookshop in Gallows Bay, Hollywood Hits Video at Sunny Isle and many beauty salons.
And later in October there will the annual Take Back the Night March. On October 21 at 6 p.m. a march will go from the Anglican Church on King Street to downtown. Wear purple and bring a can of food.
