The R/V Ronald H. Brown looks like a small cruise ship, but it's a scientific center, not a floating hotel. For its maiden Caribbean voyage this month, UVI students and marine science research staff were aboard and working around the clock, taking part in an ongoing study of Caribbean and Atlantic waters that is looking for clues to climate change.

As a child, Kim Lyons enjoyed much of what the V.I. National Park in her native St. John had to offer. Now, she's back as development director at the Friends of the Park. "I bring the perspective of a St. Johnian having grown up in the park," she said.

Emmett Hansen II threatened to "zero out" the Police Department's budget and transfer it and the police responsibilities to the separate V.I. Housing Authority Police -- which was represented at his committee hearing, while the VIPD was not.
