The Caribbean Genealogy Library offers a great selection of family history classes in May.

Genealogy for Beginners (Parts I, II, III)

In person at the Caribbean Genealogy Library or Virtual. The cost is $10 for non-members (Includes all three parts). The presenter is Diane Warmsley

Part I at 5:45 p.m., May 14

Introductory class gets beginners started on researching their family history.

Participants are introduced to genealogy with basic concepts and a five-step research model to guide their genealogical research. Vital records are discussed and illustrated.

Part 2 at 5:45 p.m., May 16

The class goes beyond vital records to cover and illustrate Census (federal and state), Military (WW I and WW II) and Social Security records (SSDI and Soc. Sec. application).

Part 3 at 2 p.m., May 18

The many records associated with the immigration and naturalization process are shown and discussed. How and where to obtain these records will also be revealed.

Researching West Indian Ancestors: Strategies and Resources

At 2 p.m., May 25

Presenter is Diane Warmsley

“Researching West Indian Ancestors: Strategies and Resources” introduces a methodology for performing family history research in the West Indies. A snapshot of a paternal line is illustrated to show how using U.S. and British West Indian records can knit the family together to reveal an ancestral line.

About the Presenter

Diane Warmsley is a professional genealogist and family historian with 25+ years of experience. Warmsley holds a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and an MS in Education. She provides professional services to clients and advances genealogy through classes and lectures. She has presented at private organizations, genealogical societies and national institutes.

In Season 9 of “Finding Your Roots,” Warmsley contributed to research on the Bahamian roots of Tamera Mowry-Housley. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, National Genealogical Society, New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, and the Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage Lineage Society.
