Muriel Gwenneth Leontine Charles, also known as Christiana Charles, of Little Princess Hill, died on April 18.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, David Manasseh “Artwell” Charles; mother, Mary Tonge-Francis; and father, Manasseh Francis
She is survived by her daughters: Dr. Sharon Patricia Charles, Lornette and Cheryl Charles, and Pauline Smith; sons: Franklyn Charles, Joseph Casmore Charles and Rowan Charles; grandchildren: Lurleen Spencer, Soneil Charles, Chief Master Sergeant William H. Charles, David-Paul, Samantha, Esonica, Salim and Keith Charles, Jamila Thomas, Kayla Boronell, Davon Petersen, Jahwanza Whyte, Chevonne Tyson, Kareem Smith (deceased), Pauline Emika Taylor and Akeem Smith; great-grandchildren: Leanza Wynter, Sonayah, Jael, Nailah, Adanya, Caleb, Avianna, Carmine and London Charles, Omiyah, Malique, Ajayda and Rihanna Constant, Emiyah Richards, Deniyah Taylor, Jeremiah Smith, Neveah Sylvest and Dior Petersen.; sister, Viola Friday; and brothers: Robert, Theodore and Maurice Francis.
She is also survived by nieces: Molvere Francis, Icilma Francis-Pigott, Janet Cetrena Francis-James, Ermane Lowry, Romalee Harris, Annette Claxton, Audrey “Yvonne” Fleming, Jeanette Francis-Ferris, Sandy Cornwall, Sonia Francis-McKenzie, Linda, Edna, Pamcheta and Denise Francis, Lisa Peters and Jodie Donawa; and nephews: Rev. Dr. Jeremy Francis, Alford and Earl Hunte, Devon Browne, Oswald, Reynold, Donald, Sydney, Curtis, Nigel, Elvis, Junie, Charlesworth, Milton, Eric, Wayne, Hilson, Jermaine, David, Reginald, Sylvester, Melrose, Sam, Robert and Marvin Francis.
More survivor are great nieces: Brenda Stevens, Sharon Roberts, Christine Guirty, Roseclaire George, Dr. Erna Mae Francis-Cotton, Connie Francis-Gumbs, Patricia Francis, Dr. Sharon Francis, Karla Fleming and Denae Fleming, Curtese, Chante’ and Kelcii Francis, Jarilyn, Jillene and Janeida Donawa; and great nephews: Lesroy “Cordy” Simon, Sylvester “Bim” Simon, Alexander Fleming, Shevlin, Dante, D’Andre, Javed, Kaisle and Jonathan Francis, Chaz Willock, Jamique James and Kai Pigott.
Other survivors include son-in-law, Denfield Smith; daughters-in-law: Angela Cannon Charles, Eloise Charles and Annmarie Halstead-Charles; sisters-in-law: Janet, Falcona, Camela and Gwendella Francis; godchildren: Rev. Dr. Cortroy Jarvis, Dan and Dave Simon; special friends: Luis Santana, Malvern Spencer, George Michael, Jean Small, Yvette and Coraleta Cornwall, Agatha Phillips, Doreen Gerard, Gwendolyn Heskey and the Friedensthal Moravian Church family; cousins: the Charles, Tonge, Rogers, and Simon families in All Saints, Parham, John Hughes and “Round South” Antigua; as well as other relatives: Dr. Maunda Charles, Lacey Charles, Nicole Marie Charles, Jerome Thomas (deceased), Brandon Boronell, Dwight Taylor and Diana King-Petersen.
The Celebration of Life Service for Muriel Gwenneth Leontine Charles will take place on Monday, May 20, at Friedensthal Moravian Church in Christiansted, St. Croix. Tributes and viewing will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
