The Department of Finance advises all recipients of income tax check returns issued on April 24, 2024, to exercise caution when opening their checks. A technical anomaly occurred during the sealing process, which impacted how the account and routing numbers were reflected once folded. To ensure that people do not detach the routing and account number, they should use a letter opener or similar object to open the top section of the check.
If a person has already detached that portion of the check and then encounters any difficulty depositing or cashing the tax refund, the Virgin Islands Department of Finance requests that you promptly return the check to the department’s disbursement office for voiding and reissuance.
For those affected out of the territory, follow these steps:
Carefully package the original tax refund check. Mail the check to the Department of Finance at this address:
Treasury Division
Department of Finance
2314 Kronprindsens Gade
St. Thomas, VI 00802
Upon receipt, the department will promptly void the original check and reissue a replacement.
The Department of Finance is committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible.
