11th Annual Rotary Sunrise Kids Triathlon Attracts Over 70 Students

2023 Kids Triathlon (Submitted poster)

Over 70 students representing 10 schools as well as several home-schooled students, came out on Saturday, April 15, to the 11th Annual Rotary Sunrise Kids Triathlon.

Conditions were perfect for the event, with calm seas and sunny skies. The entrants were divided into age groups 5-8, 9-11, and 12-15. Each group then swam, biked, and ran the racecourse at Magen’s Bay. There were individuals who participated in all three legs as well as relay teams.
To an enthusiastic crowd of parents, siblings, volunteers and friends who cheered on the participants, every child was a winner as they showed perseverance to the finish line. The top three finishers received “Gold,” “Silver,” and “Bronze” medals. In other awards, monetary prizes will be awarded to the athletic department for schools with the most participants. The leader in this category was Antilles School with 21 students, followed by 14 homeschooled students and Addelita Cancryn Jr High School with 12 students. It was noted at the awards that two-person girls’ teams seemed to come in ahead of the three-person boys’ teams.  Adrianna Gumbs and Sage Ceasar won the relay in the 5-8 group and Regan Uszenski and Avery Pearsall successfully defended their win in the 9-11 group in the 10th Kids Triathlon with a win in the 11th.
