Man Killed in Auto-Pedestrian Accident on STX

A 66-year-old man was killed on Thursday when he was struck by a car on St. Croix, the V.I. Police Department reported.

In a news release issued on Monday, the police identified the victim as Fernando Crispin.

According to police, at about 7:42 p.m. Feb. 11 the 911 emergency call center received a report of a vehicular–pedestrian accident in Estate Profit.

The investigation into the incident revealed that a silver Ford Ranger pickup truck was southbound on Route 663 when a pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old Crispin, attempted to cross the road westbound and was hit by the vehicle. Crispin was transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital via ambulance, where he subsequently died from his injuries.

The investigation also showed that the victim had been wearing dark clothing and the area did not have streetlights. Those factors may have contributed to the accident, police said.
