VING to Promote Air Guard Officer Mathurin-Lee to Colonel

Lt. Col. Glenda Mathurin-Lee, will be promoted to the rank of colonel on Dec. 19.

The Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) will host a promotion ceremony for Lt. Col. Glenda Mathurin-Lee, who will be promoted to the rank of colonel on Thursday, Dec. 19. Mathurin-Lee is the first local Virgin Islander to earn the rank of colonel in the Virgin Islands Air National Guard. The ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Estate Bethlehem, Joint Force Headquarters.

During her 31 years of service, she served as an enlisted Airman from 1988 until she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the V.I. Air National Guard (VIANG) in June 2002. The lieutenant colonel deployed to Kyrgyzstan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in October 2011.

Mathurin-Lee has held several positions in the V.I. National Guard to include commander of the 285th Combat Communications Squadron, state human resources officer, director of personnel and director of staff for the VIANG. She has also held various positions on the Counterdrug Task Force to include drug demand reduction administrator for the territory. The soldier currently serves as director of joint staff for VING.

In her civilian profession, Mathurin-Lee has served as a teacher at the St. Patrick Catholic School and a business education instructor at St. Croix Education Complex High School. She is a graduate of the 1987 Class of St. Croix Central High School and alumna of the University of the Virgin Islands.
