Harold “Panhandle” Rabsatt of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, died on Jan. 16, at the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Davenport, Fla.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1935, in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and moved to St. Thomas in his late teens where he worked as a construction worker. Harold retired from the construction industry after 30 years of service and continued to work as a taxi driver for East End Taxi at Red Hook until retiring at the age of 80.
Harold is preceded in death by his two oldest children: Beverly and Eddy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Alvara Rabsatt; children: Alexis Swift, Theresa Sweet, Melanie Rabsatt-Connor and Ritza Rabsatt Santana; grandchildren: Kahlid Tapia, Keshma Felix Gilchrist, Krystle Felix, Shawn Santana, Rachael Sweet, Wesley Sweet and Chad George; great-grandchildren: Razekiel Santana, Ezri Santana and Avianna Gilchrist; aunt, Naomi Patterson; and nieces: June Testamark, Pearline Henley, Linda Alexander, Corine Clarke, Yvonne Rabsatt, Imede Bell, Carmen Rabsatt, Janet Harrigan, Edith Werts, Maureen Rabsatt-Cullar, Carolyn Archer, Paulette Rabsatt Simmonds and Mobile Peterson.
He is also survived by nephews: Albert “Nando” Rabsatt, Raphael George, Kelvin Mallone, Wayne Mallone, Andy “Shaemlai” Clarke, Landel Prosper, Steve Rabsatt, Ted Rabsatt, Eroll “Mikey” Rabsatt, Louis “Doc” Rabsatt, Marvin Rabsatt and Maurice Rabsatt; sons-in-law: Darius Sweet, Felix Santana Jr. and Irvin Connor; sisters-in-law: Esmie Rabsatt and Jennie Wheatley; brother-in-law, Arnold “Crackers” Smith; and honorary children: Gladys Scatliffe and Anthony “Chiwawa” Angol.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Trinity Methodist Church, St. Thomas. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with service immediately following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Smith Bay Eastern Cemetery.
