Juta Wistaria Smith Matthias Dies in Miami

Juta Wistaria Smith Matthias

Juta Wistaria Smith Matthias died on Thursday, Jan. 17, in Miami, Fla. She worked as the office manager for Dr. Wishburne Hunte and Dr. Tai Caesar-Hunte of the Medical Foundation Building. Juta was a graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. She worked for Graybar Electric Company Inc. for several years before relocating back to her home on St. Thomas.

She is survived by her parents: Raymond and Averil Smith; husband, Courtney Matthias; brothers: Orville Webster, Alvery Smith, Casey Smith and Shermon Smith; aunts: Edna Smith, Estelle Johnson, Vancie Evans, Evadnie Rey, Jean Webster, Carmen Webster, Lorna Webster, Shirley Ruan and Ella Vanterpool; and uncles: Dudley Webster, Chrispin Webster, Thomas Webster, Curtis Webster, Dwight Webster and Elliot Harrigan.

She is also survived by nieces: La Jeune Matthias, Natasha Owens, Stephanie Owens, Lisa Matthias, Ingrid Carmona, Astrid Carmona-Tuitt, La Tonia Matthias, Francesca Matthias, Sheryl Juliene Matthias, Cherise Matthias, Jilyssa Smith-Cross and Jaylan Cross; and nephews: Rodney Owens, Ryan Matthias, Dudley Matthias, Dwight Matthias, Dale Matthias, Efrain Carmona Jr., Shaun Matthias, Leon Webster, Derrel Smith, Alonte Smith and Lorenz Smith.

Other survivors include special cousins: Judy McCalla, Janice Rey, Sherwin Rey, Jasmine Shillingford, Jeanelle Rey, Lawrence Webster, Dean Webster, Stacey Webster, Alana Webster, Erin Webster, Ramona Webster, Charmaine Webster, Shernika Connor, Jeanette Connor, Cassandra Cooper, Shane Donadelle, Shannese Motta, Kareem Cannings, Latisha Cannings, Lance Cannings, Kaleem Cannings and Joseph Posten Jr.; special friends: Josie Halley, Pauline Abraham, Karen Christopher, Phobe Charles and Nidia Frett; as well as many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention and the Philadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church family.

The first viewing will be at Turnbull’s Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9.

A second viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church in Tutu on Sunday, Feb. 10. Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery in Smith Bay.
