Jeanette Mactavious Thomas died on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Schneider Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon “Shaky” Thomas Sr.
She is survived by her children: Verna J. Thomas-Martin, Verda J. Bastian, Vera J. Thomas-Pinney, Vernon Thomas Jr. and Virden G. Thomas Sr.; sons-in-law: Addison Martin, Wayne A. Bastian and Lawson U. Pinney; daughter-in-law, Aracelis Serrano; 15 grandchildren: Davita A. Matthias, David A. Matthias, Omauri Grosvenor, Candis S. Bastian, Chandis S. Bastian, Wayne A. Bastian, II, Calique A. Bastian, Duke W. Este II, Dukeem W. Este, Du’kera W. Este, Vernon Thomas III, V’Nyesha G. Thomas, Virden G. Thomas Jr., Vi’Quan G. Thomas and Tyrone Industrious Jr.; and great-grandchildren: Julio J.B. Sanchez Jr., Julito J. Sanchez, Jada S. Bastian and Amari, Armani and Amai Nibbs; sisters: Ione Jennings, Irene Fraser and Millicent Wenner.
She is also survived by her brother, Dennis Mactavious; sisters-in-law: Mayrose Adams, Earline Smith, Doreen Adams, Clarice Francis and Jannet Doeh; brothers-in-law: Austin Fraser, and Ludrick and Sanford Thomas; and 21 nieces: Hilda Mactavious, Lorris Penn, Uris Frett, Elaine Mactavious, Adeline Mactavious, Jacklyn Mactavious, Carol Mactavious, Janette Lettsome, Bernette Scatliffe, Anette Mactavious, Barbara Mactavious, Karen Mactavious, Delrice Mactavious, Catherine Pickering, Corrine Jennings, Candaisy Jennings, Cheryl Doward, Carolyn Webster, Charmaine Jennings, Jennifer Penn and Brenda Martino.
Other survivors include 11 nephews: Alexander Mactavious, Harris Mactavious, Clarence Mactavious, Allen Mactavious, Randolph Mactavious Jr., Dennis Mactavious Jr., Clifton Jennings, Clyde Jennings, Ira Mactavious, Lucien Fraser, Austin Andrew Fraser and Bryan Fraser; special friends: Cescily Christopher, Hyacinth Thomas, Hilda Clyne, Rita Dawson, Ruth Anthony, Antoinette Abraham, Carolyn Penn and Naomi Donavan; as well as many relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
The first viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home.
The second viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at Christchurch Methodist Market Square, St. Thomas. Interment will be at Western Cemetery No. 2.
