MLK Jr. Basketball Tournament Results Given, Finals Set for Jan. 20

The finals of the 2014 Martin Luther King Basketball tournament will be held with the St. Croix Central High School Lady Caribs set to face longtime rivals Charlotte Amalie High School (CAHS) Lady Hawks at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, at the Digna Marie Gymnasium, Eudora Kean High School. The Lady Hawks won the round robin play and easily defeated the Lady Caribs, 46-24.
Ranai Evans had 13 points to lead Charlotte Amalie. Shirvel Luke and Lenisha Gabriel contributed 10 points, and Sherelle George added nine. Freshman Anisha George had six points and 11 rebounds to lead Central. Raemisha Claxton, a senior forward, also had six points before fouling out.
St. Thomas rivals, the Eudora Kean and Charlotte Amalie boys’ teams, will meet in the finals. Stephaun Adams, Akiyo Neille and Kyu Matthews led the Devil Rays to an undefeated season thus far. The trio is set to face CAHS trio of bigs Jamari Benjamin, Jevon Philpott and Kwame McBean, who all stand 6-foot-4 and up.
CAHS reached to finals after holding off Educational Complex, 62-49. T’Quan Registe and Jabari Alexander each tallied 11 points, and Jevon Philpott added 10. Philpott and Registe also caromed 8 rebounds apiece.
Samuel Joseph had 9 points and 6 rebounds, and Andre Lewis nailed three 3-pointers to tally 9 points for Educational Complex.
