A 20-year-old man was gunned down about 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the Mutual Homes housing community near Building 2, according to the V.I. Police Department.
Police identified the victim as Mervin Sylvester and said he had been shot multiple times.
It was the 18th homicide on St. Croix since the start of 2013, the 33rd in the territory.
According to the police news release issued Friday, officers dispatched to the scene found the unresponsive body of the victim lying on the sidewalk, dressed in black shorts, a black shirt and black slippers. Emergency medical technicians said the victim displayed no signs of life.
The case is being followed up by detective from the Criminal Investigation Bureau, who urged anyone with any knowledge of the crime to contact them at 1-340-712-6037 or 1-340-712-6077.
