Estate Nadir Man Dies of Gunshot

An Estate Nadir man was shot Thursday night and died several hours later at Schneider Regional Medical Center, according to the V.I. Police Department.

It was the 34th homicide in the territory since the beginning of 2013, the 16th on St. Thomas. Late Friday the police identified the victim as Alwyn Cornelius Samuel.

According to the police, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded about 9:30 p.m. Thursday to a call of a gunshot injury at Schneider Hospital. When they arrived they spoke to the victim, who told them he had been walking to his home in Estate Nadir and, that when he arrived at his gate, he saw a man wearing a mask leaving his yard. A scuffle broke out between the two men.

The victim said he was shot by the suspect during the fight. He was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery.

Police were notified that the victim died from his injuries at 6:25 a.m. Friday.

This case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives. Anyone with information can contact the detectives by calling the 911 emergency call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
