Detectives from the V.I. Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Croix arrested two adult male suspects Tuesday, confiscating five deadly weapons, ammunition, a bullet proof vest and marijuana.
The arrests occurred during a morning raid in which officers executed arrest and search warrants, according to police.
Johmal Sanes, 23, was arrested at a residence in Estate Williams about 6 a.m.
Estaban “Bang” Sanes, 42, was arrested about 6:15 a.m. the same day at a residence in Castle Burke.
Both suspects were charged with first degree assault, carrying or using a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence, unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence and first degree reckless endangerment.
Their bail was set at $100,000 each, which they were unable to post. The suspects were remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court hearings.
Police said the arrests were connected to a first-degree assault that occurred in Castle Burke on Nov. 12, in which a man was shot in his face.
St. Croix Police Chief James Parris said Tuesday’s arrests will send a message to the criminal element that police will not allow them to disrupt the peace of the community.
“They will be found and they will be arrested” the chief said.
