DPW Closing Section Of Melvin Evans Highway For Six Days

A section of the Melvin Evans Highway from the intersection of Route 669 and Route 66 (Industrial Park Intersection) to the intersection of Route 64 and Route 66 (East Airport Road Intersection) will be closed to all eastbound traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Wednesday to Dec. 24.

According to Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls, the closure will allow crews to reeconstruct a small portion of the roadway and replace damaged sections of the concrete median barriers.

Smalls said a single lane will be re-opened after 4 p.m. each day.

“Single lane road closures will continue in the eastbound and westbound lanes and will be in effect overnight and through the weekends," the commissioner said.

Smalls asked motorists and other road users to reduce speed, pay attention to the posted construction signs and to follow directions of traffic control personnel while construction is in progress.
