Man Killed in Butler Bay Shooting

A 31-year-old man was found dead early Sunday, the victim of a shooting in Estate Butler’s Bay, the V.I. Police Department announced Monday.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating the death of Sheldon Phillips, who was pronounced dead at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital.

It was the 16th homicide in the territory this year, the eighth on St. Croix.

According to the preliminary police report, Phillips was in the drivers’ seat of his vehicle when he was shot. The shooting happened outside of a private party in Estate Butler’s Bay in Frederiksted.

The victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and pronounced dead by medical personnel a few minutes before 5 a.m. July 7.

Detectives requested that anyone who was in the vicinity of the private party or near where the victim’s car was parked and heard any arguments, saw anything unusual or knows anything about the case can call detectives at 1-340-712-6077 or 1-340-712-6037, the emergency 911 center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
