From Nooks to Android tablets, students at the Ivanna Eudora Kean High and Bertha C. Boschulte Middle schools were presented with prizes Thursday after winning the top spots in V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency’s first-ever emergency preparedness essay contest.
The essay contest targeted fourth- to 12th-graders at all territorial public, private and parochial schools. On St. Thomas and St. John, winners were selected from BCB, Kean and Wesleyan Academy, while students at Claude O. Markoe Elementary and Elena Christian Junior High schools on St. Croix will be presented with their awards during similar ceremonies scheduled for June 11.
Boschulte students received Nooks and Kindles, compliments of VITEMA, while the first- and second-place winners at Kean received Android tablets. The third-place finisher received a new cell phone with a year’s worth of free service – six months donated by Choice Wireless, and another six months donated by Kean Principal Sharon McCollum.
