Rotary Club Offers Stanley Farrelly Scholarships

The Rotary Club of St. Croix offers two one-year $1,200 scholarships to St. Croix high school seniors in honor of Stanley Farrelly, a charter member of its club. The Rotary Club of St. Croix was chartered over 53 years ago by Rotarian Stanley and a group of men dedicated to improving the lives of Virgin Islanders and upholding strict vocational and ethical standards.
Rotarian Stanley was very active and respected on St. Croix and beyond. Probably best known as the U.S. marshall, he served as Island administrator, executive director of the V.I. Port Authority; commissioner of the Commerce Department, now the V.I. Tourism Department; was a member of Knights of Columbus, and an avid Yankees fan. He was active in the club as long as his health permitted and died in February 2003.
It is the wish of the Rotary Club of St. Croix that the students that receive this award will demonstrate the same love and commitment to their home, community and profession that Stanley Farrelly did every day of his life.
The applicant should be a graduating St. Croix high school senior, planning to major in law enforcement or related fields and should have a minimum 3.0 over all GPA/ SAT score 1200. However, others may be considered.
Applications are available from 12th grade counselors or can be requested by e-mail joliver911@aol.com / 713-9866 or sphaire@yahoo.com / 643-9888.
