Frederiksted Health Care Inc. (FHC) and the Virgin Islands Department of Health STD/HIV/TB Program are hosting the Ryan White Network of Care and HIV/AIDS Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at the Martha and Bennie Cardiac Center on St. Croix. The theme for the conference is “Putting the Pieces of Providing Comprehensive Care Together for People Living with HIV/AIDS.”
FHC and DOH promise a full agenda. Conference attendees will have an opportunity to hear from Dr. Carline Jean-Gilles, who has conducted extensive outcome-based, theory driven and culturally appropriate research that designs and evaluates interventions to reduce HIV risk-associated sexual behaviors. Dr. Jean-Gilles and her colleagues have conducted a series of randomized, controlled behavioral intervention trials aimed at increasing safer sex behaviors among minority college women. She is one of the co-authors of the book entitled “Be Safe: NMAETC Cultural Competency Model.”
Other presenters at the conference will be River Huston and Dr. Brent Laartz, who will discuss TB and TB/HIV co-infection and viewing HIV/AIDS as a chronic disease.
The conference is targeting persons in the healthcare field, community-based organizations and HIV/AIDS advocates.
