The general public is invited to view the work of free-lance photographer Samuel Josiah James Jr. in the Reichhold Center for the Arts lobby, where it will be on exhibit until March 20.
This colorful photographic exhibit represents his many years of traveling and shooting photographs in many countries and islands. It features photographs taken in South Africa, West Africa, the Canary Islands and Casablanca, Morocco. The Caribbean islands included in this exhibit are: St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John, Puerto Rico, Antigua and the Dominican Republic. The exhibit features vivid photos of cultural dancers, musicians, festivals, beautiful flowers, breath-taking landscape scenes and views of majestic architecture in Africa.
James was born and raised in Antigua, West Indies. He continued his photography on a part-time basis during his 45 years working as a professional television broadcast engineer. He served as the chief engineer at WTJX Channel 12 and as the station’s volunteer-staff photographer. His photographs were published in the TV station’s booklet, “Take Twelve” from 1992-2009. In November 2009, his photography was featured in the station’s first edition of the “Taste of Two Islands” cookbook.
The art exhibit can be viewed in the gallery at the Reichhold Center for the Arts from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and on weekends during intermission at Reichhold Center’s scheduled performances beginning on March 3. The photographs are available for purchase.
