As part of its ongoing speaker series, the Friends of Elaine Sprauve Library on St. John will host a free “Taming the High Cost of College” workshop on how to save money when it comes to college costs. It runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 11.
Antilles School on St. Thomas will hold a similar seminar from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 12.
“It gives you an idea of what you’re supposed to be doing and how to do it,”
Sprauve Librarian Carol McGuinness said.
The workshops are led by Brad Baldridge, a Certified Financial Planner specializing in providing customized college planning using the latest tax, cash flow, and academic strategies to save money on college costs. He is the owner of Baldridge College Solutions.
Parents and students from all schools are invited to attend. Those who attend will receive a personal consultation with Baldridge.
Topics will include how to qualify for more need-based financial aid, the dos and don’ts in applying for financial aid, how to use tax scholarships to pay for college expenses, how to get money from schools even if you do not qualify for need-based aid, and how to attend an expensive private university for less than the cost of a state school.
