Schneider ER Director Preps for 'Dinner'

Dr. Calvin WheatleyA new lecture series at Schneider Regional Medical Center aims to show patients that they don’t have to leave the island to get the best health care possible.

On Monday, residents are invited to come out to the hospital’s third "Dinner with the Doctor" session, which features a different physician every month. This time around, SRMC’s Emergency Room Director Dr. Clayton Wheatley will discuss emergency services the hospital offers and when a patient should come into the ER for care.

Wheatley, a native Virgin Islander, is a graduate of Tufts University Medical Center and has more than 30 years of experience in emergency medicine and trauma care.

"This is an opportunity for us to introduce our services to the community featuring our physicians," SRMC head Alice Taylor said recently. "SRMC provides excellent care. Our doctors are top-notch and we provide a wide range of services, and we think this will show that the people of the Virgin Islands do not have to leave home to have their health care needs met."

The series started in May, and has already featured the hospital’s endocrinologist and director of radiation oncology, who spoke in June about prostate cancer.

"This series also helps us to inform the public about issues that may affect our community and steps they can take to prevent these illnesses," Taylor said.

This month’s dinner with Wheatley kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Sunroom of the hospital, adjacent to the Island Breeze Café. Wheatley’s presentation begins at 6 p.m.
