Joint Initiative Leads to Fugitive's Capture

Members of the VIPD’s Special Operations Bureau joined forces with the Department of Justice and the VITEMA Fusion Center to capture a wanted fugitive on St. Thomas, the V.I.P.D. announced Thursday.

Fredrick A. Pickering, 33, was arrested based on warrants issued by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy and V.I. Gov. John deJongh Jr.

Pickering is wanted in Connecticut for second-degree sexual assault and first-degree burglary. Based on intelligence provided by VITEMA, officers from Zone B conducted surveillance on the suspect and arrested him at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday in Estate Smith Bay.

Bail was denied for Pickering and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his extradition to Connecticut.
