Man Assaults Roommate with Hammer

Police on St. Thomas arrested 34-year-old Touray Martin shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday and charged him with assaulting his roommate with a hammer while the two were at a local bar.

The incident happened in Estate Bovoni, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Police say Martin approached the 45-year-old victim in the bar and asked about the payment for their utility bill. They began to argue and Martin grabbed a hammer from behind the counter and repeatedly hit the victim on his left hip, causing a cut. Martin then left the area in his vehicle.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Roy Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police found Martin and arrested him. His bail was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
