Gov. John deJongh Jr. is granting non-essential government employees administrative leave for Christmas, the St. Croix Festival and next year’s inaugural celebration.
According to a recently signed proclamation, administrative leave is granted territory-wide from noon to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, according to a Government House release.
Hoping to encourage greater participation in St. Croix’s annual Festival celebrations, deJongh also gave employees the day off for the Children’s Parade on Friday, Jan. 7. Employees on St. Croix will also get the day off on Jan. 5 for the St. Croix Christmas Festival J’ouvert and the Food, Arts and Crafts Fair.
In celebration of the 2011 inaugural, employees territory-wide will have Jan. 3 off, while St. Croix employees will also get Jan. 4 off to attend post-inaugural activities. Leave will also be granted to St. John employees on Jan. 5.
Administrative leave schedule is as follows:
Dec. 24 and 31, 2010: territory-wide administrative leave noon to 5 p.m.
Jan. 3, 2011: territory-wide administrative leave 8 am to 5 pm
Jan. 4, 2011: St. Croix only administrative leave 8 am to 5 pm
Jan. 5, 2011: St. Croix and St. John only administrative leave 8 am to 5 pm
Jan. 7, 2011:territory-wide administrative leave 8 am to 5 pm
The administrative leave proclamation does not apply to essential government employees, employees on a regular or rotating shift, and employees on annual or sick leave.
