Anchor Dive knocked off the Coolers, arguably the hottest team in the league, 12-10, Thursday night in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League, while Set It Off and Softball Inc were winners against the Diageo Hummers and the Dirty Dozen by scores of 16-13 and 19-4 respectively.
Anchor Dive 12, Coolers 10
Anchor Dive surprised the streaking Coolers 12-10 in Thursday’s opening contest and stopped the latter’s five-game winning streak in the process. The Coolers had not lose a game since opening night, but Anchor Dive proved that on any given night they can tussle with the best in the league.
It was Anchor Dive with 12 runs on 11 hit and three errors while the Coolers finished with 10 runs on nine hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Edwin Sankittss, and Dexter DeSouza got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Danny Rodriguez (4 for 4 with two RBIs and Raphael Almonte 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs). For the Coolers, Tomas Corcino was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Eric Perez was 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI.
Set It Off 16, Diageo Hummers 13
In game two, Set It Off surprised the powerful Diageo Hummers 16-13 to hand one of the league’s elite teams their second loss in a row. Set It off finished with 16 runs on 13 hits and three errors while the Hummers totaled 13 runs on 14 hits and three errors. Julio Carmona picked up the win on the mound for Set it off while Roman Cruz got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Juna Burgos (4 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs) and David Pierre (3 for 4 with a home run and one RBI). For the Hummers, Edgardo Sanes was 2 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs, and Neal Davis was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Softball Inc 19, Dirty Dozen 4
In Thursday’s nightcap, Softball Inc easily dispatched the cellar-dwelling Dirty Dozen in five innings by a score of 19-4. It was Softball Inc with 19 runs on 16 hits and three errors while the Dirty Dozen finished with four runs on eight hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Bill Harris with Steve Nisky getting the loss. Top batters for Softball Inc were Cody St. Pierre (3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Juan Santana 3 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Robert Roland was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs and Brandon Rausch was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
