Niguel Williams, a 26-year-old resident of Estate Contant, was arrested at about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday and charged with assault and other crimes in a non-fatal shooting that occurred Nov. 28 in Pine Peace.
According to the V.I Police Department, Williams was positively identified as the person who had an argument with another man and shot him in his lower left abdomen. A bullet also grazed the victim from his right temple to his right earlobe.
Williams was charged with first-degree assault, possession of an unlicensed firearm and reckless endangerment. Bail was set at $95,000, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
St. John Deputy Chief Darren Foy said the suspect was identified by police the day of the shooting. However, to build an airtight case against the suspect, detectives opted to get a court-ordered arrest warrant as well and continue investigating the incident before arresting the suspect. In the meantime, Williams was kept under police surveillance, Foy said.
