Woman Arrested on ID Theft, Other Charges

Anastasia Smith, a 20-year-old resident of Estate Frydenhoj, was arrested and charged her with forgery, aggravated identity theft, obtaining money by false pretense and grand larceny.

Insular Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Thomas arrested Smith at noon Tuesday based on a warrant signed by Magistrate Alan Smith. Representatives of First Bank assisted in the investigation.

The investigation began when a 62-year-old woman reported her checking account contained unauthorized charges totaling $6,150.00. Police said Smith stole the victim’s checks, forged her signature and cashed them.

Bail for Smith was set at $10,000 and she was remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
