Douglas Samuel Kilgour Dies at 59

Douglas Samuel Kilgour, 59, entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 26. Doug was born Nov. 5, 1949 to Margaret Kilgour Ashhurst and the late Samuel Kilgour. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Elizabeth Kilgour of Augusta, Ga.; children: Samantha Kilgour of Pittsburgh, Penn. and Douglas W. Kilgour of Nashville, Tenn.; stepchildren: R.J. Boyer of Denver, Col. and Eric Boyer of New York, N.Y.; sister, Jane Kilgour of Miami, Fla.; and mother and stepfather: Margaret and Fred Ashhurst of Aiken, S.C.

His stepfather, Fred Ashhurst, was instrumental in teaching Doug to play tennis. Doug would eventually pursue a career teaching tennis. He attended Antilles School on St. Thomas and Stonybrook School for Boys in Long Island, NY. He attended Paul Smith’s College and graduated from the University of Denver in Colorado. Upon graduation, he joined his stepfather at the Virgin Isle Hilton Hotel and later at The Buccaneer Hotel on St. Croix. Doug was the past owner of Forest Hills Tennis and Racquet Club in Augusta, Ga. He was an avid golfer and a member of Forest Hills Golf Club and River Golf Club in North Augusta, SC. While growing up on St. Thomas, he played Little League softball and was a member of the Coca-Cola team. One of his fondest memories was hitting a homerun ball into the water, over the waterfront from the Emil Griffiths ballpark in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Doug will be laid to rest in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York.
He was waked at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Road., Evans, Ga. 760-860-6166.
