Leona Maria James Dies at 86

Leona Maria James, also known as “Ma,” of Sion Farm died on Sept. 9, at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital. She was 86 years old.

She is survived by her daughters: Sheryl George and Carol; sons: Vernon , Rubio, William and Alonzo James; grandchildren: Christina Claxton, Amorette Simmonds, Charles Rawlins, Gary Simmonds, Okeisha James-Huertas, Zora James, Kareem Jones, Oneal Jones Sandy James, and Dorlie, Josephine, Leona, Leona, Zuri, Zippoarh, Zora, Kamal, Henrique, Vernon Jr., Joe, Eric, Dean, Jaheart, David, Leroy Jr., Ruben, Jonathan, Mathew, Kimberly, Diana, Stephine, Christine and Natalie James; and 56 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by daughters-in-law: Maria Rexach and Geraldine James; son-in-law, Alric George; cousins and other relatives: the Henneman, Dureant and Ross families; special friends: Sister Greac Henry, Author Raymo, Mrs. Leacock, Sister Rowena Browun, Sister Adella Browune, Sister Jennifer McIntosh, Sister Doreen Gerard, Sister Madeline Roberts, Sister Iris B. Wilson, Sister Gerde James, Sister Everne Rhymer, Brother Henry Solrotti and the Friedensthal Moravian Church family; as well as other friends and relatives too many to mention.
A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. and a funeral service at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Friedensthal Moravian Church. Interment will follow at Christiansted Cemetery.
