Police Probe Gunfire Incident In Bovoni

May 31, 2009 — Spent bullet casings were still in plain view on the road in front of Lima Grocery Saturday morning after a report of gunshots in Bovoni.
Police on St. Thomas responded to the call of shots fired at about 7:30 a.m. The incident occurred near the grocery, across the street from the Lima Dvergsten Plaza.
"Nobody was hurt," according to V.I.P.D. spokeswoman Melody Rames in a telephone conversation Saturday morning.
A female police officer has been placed on administrative leave following the incident according to a release from the department.
“The off-duty female police officer was alleged to be in the vicinity of a discharging of shots, however it is unknown at this time if the officer was directly involved in the discharging of shots,” newly designated Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis, Jr said in the release.
An hour after the incident the road in front of the grocery was still down to one lane, and police personnel had numbered the shell casings in the eastbound lane of the Bovoni Road and were investigating and photographing the crime scene.
“The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau,” Francis said in the release, “and the V.I.P.D. Director of Internal Affairs is also investigating this case." Francis added, "I have consulted with Attorney General Vincent Frazer regarding this matter.”
