Police Announce Changes in St. Thomas/St. John District Leadership

Feb. 18, 2009 — Sgt. Dwayne DeGraff has been named the new St. Thomas deputy police chief, replacing Lt. Melvin Venzen, who has been reassigned to lead the V.I. Police Department Special Operations Bureau, Police Commissioner James H. McCall announced Wednesday.
"I am confident in the abilities of Sgt. DeGraff as he undertakes this new assignment," McCall said in a statement. "He brings a wealth of expertise to the position and will augment the efforts of Police Chief Rodney Querrard Sr. in waging a strategic fight against the criminal element."
Venzen will soon announce an expansion of the Special Operations Bureau to more adequately meet the challenges being faced by the police force, McCall said.
The reassignments take effect Sunday.
