WAPA Rotating Power on St. Thomas, St. John Through Tuesday

July 21, 2008 — The V.I. Water and Power Authority will continue to rotate feeders every two hours on Tuesday as engineers and technicians work to repair a faulty 42-megawatt gas turbine that caused Monday's rotating power.
According to Hugo Hodge, Jr. WAPA's executive director, the utility anticipates completing repairs by Wednesday and restoring stability to St. Thomas' Randolph E. Harley Power Plant once the unit is back on line.
Hodge said that while WAPA implemented a rotation schedule on Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the schedule was discontinued by 4 p.m. when WAPA was able to meet mid-afternoon demand. But two big hotels remained off line and generated their own power in order to assist WAPA in meeting its generation shortfalls.
