Airway Robbery

The Source:

I am in full agreement with other Crucians who have found the recent airfare sale by American Airlines to be a slap in the face, as it does not apply to St. Croix-bound travel.
As a graduate student in Texas, I have been looking forward to coming home for a week in July to see friends, get back in the water, and enjoy the beauty of the big island. It is the slow season and American Airlines should be bending over backwards with the VI Department of Tourism to get planes to both islands full. Yet imagine my shock when round-trip tickets to St. Croix were $1300. How is that good for St. Croix? Only after a day of searching and accepting three layovers could I get a flight for under $800. I can fly to Australia for that money. How many families looking for a nice vacation will make that same effort when they can fly for $100 to see our sister island? Just like everything else when it comes to supporting tourism on St. Croix, everything is just lip service from the Tourism Board. It really is all about the cruise ships in St. Thomas. Just ask how busy that pier that we paid to re-dredge last year is. Better yet, don't.
