Libraries to Host Second Annual Read on the Green

April 10, 2007 — The Department of Planning and Natural Resources urges the entire community to help build better futures for all of our children by coming together April 21 from noon to 5 p.m. for the second annual Read on the Green at the UVI golf course on St. Thomas.
Families are encouraged to come out and share their love of reading and enjoy an afternoon of fun and "edutainment." Author/storyteller Elaine Jacobs is the featured author, and she will be reading to the children at 2 p.m.
Other planned activities include face painting, story reading, crafts and a special play area for children.
April 15-21 is National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.
“Libraries are places where everyone, regardless of age, race or income, can come together — whether it’s for entertainment, self-help or to find their place in the community. Every day libraries big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businesses help transform their communities,” said Enid M. Baa librarian Rachelle Shells.
Read on the Green is a collaborative effort between schools and public and academic libraries, the Department of Education, St. Thomas/St. John District; Primary Grades Division and Media Library Service; DPNR; Enid M. Baa Public Library and the U.V.I. Paiewonsky Library.
