Dear Source:
Perhaps it is finally time for our Department of Motor Vehicles to begin emissions testing on the smoke-belching vehicles driving our island roads.
Years ago I wrote the local newspaper regarding this subject as well as contacting the EPA. After many letters back and forth, the EPA told me, "DMV has no tail pipe testing in place for emissions control."
What is interesting to me is that one doesn't really need to test at the tailpipe of a vehicle when one can SEE the smoke billowing from exhausts and people on sidewalks holding their noses.
Perhaps the Source could look into this and urge DMV and the EPA to begin testing, thus helping to keep our clean air clean.
