V.I. Cycling Federation, Bumann Dominates Again

Feb. 20. 2007 – Using tactics that are as successful as they are simple, Robert Bumann simply launched himself off the starting line and rode unchallenged to another cycling win. Bumann gained over 30 seconds a lap on the rest of the field in the ten circuit, 45-mile Angel Encarnacion La Grange Race, making a counter attack all but impossible. Bumann has become an unstoppable force in local cycling, and has even upped his training as he prepares to race in South Africa in an event that will draw 40,000 other riders. John Riggs made a late attack to capture second and Juancito Gario was best of the rest in third.
Visiting from the US, Alex Kloss attacked with a lap and a half to go in the 27-mile Expert race and caught his competitors napping. He won by 23 seconds over Miguel Cruz and Emmanuel Maldonado.
The 13 Sport Category saw an exciting field sprint determine the outcome as Donald Christian, Edwin Cruz and Khidhr Tariq took the top slots. The women raced the same distance and Heidi Snow snagged another win over Elizabeth Nurnberger and Erica Sweitzer.
The next race on the calendar is Sunday, Feb. 25. A nine-mile individual time trial will start at Ha'Penny and finish at Divi Carina Bay Resort. Registration will be from 6:30-6:50 a.m., and the race will start at 7 a.m.
