May 22, 2003 — Two St. John women are combining their talents for a unique workshop at Maho Bay Campground, June 21-22. Clay artist Gail Van de Bogurt is teaming up with astrologer and stargazer Kelley Hunter for a two-day event called Heaven and Earth, Stars and Clay.
Participants will be provided with their own birth charts from which to design a clay model with moving planet pieces. Discussion will focus on how astrology works, the meaning of the charts, and an overview of current planetary cycles for 2003. Stargazing on Saturday evening will round out the activities with a look at the night sky to identify stars and constellations. This is a great way to learn astrology and have a personalized piece of art to take home and use for further study of the stars.
Van de Bogurt, a ceramic artist skilled in many techniques, is director of the new Maho Bay Clay Studio, part of the new Arts Center. She shows her work at Bajo El Sol Gallery in Cruz Bay and in Michigan. Hunter is an internationally known astrologer who offers weekly stargazing nights at Maho Bay and is astrologer-in-residence for the Self Centre at Caneel Bay.
