ART WORKSHOP TO FOCUS ON 'PERSONAL CONTENT'

Just as Gertrude Stein's "rose is a rose is a rose," a landscape is a landscape, if you want to be totally objective about artwork.
But most artists certainly wouldn't want to be accused of being objective about their art, and for them, fellow artist Marcia Goldenstein, who specializes in landscapes, has some things to say.
Goldenstein teaches art at the University of Tennessee. Additionally, she conducts workshops for artists across the country on "ways to infuse your compositions with meaningful personal content," according to a release from the St. Thomas-St. John Arts Council.
The Arts Council has arranged for Goldenstein to judge this year's Caribbean Colour fine art exhibition on St. Thomas. While she is on island, she will also lead a "personal content" workshop for local artists.
The workshop will take place in Tillett Gardens on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants should bring their painting materials of choice with them. Registration is $50 for Arts Council member artists and $25 for art teachers and advanced students. For further information, call 774-8900 and leave a message for a call-back.
