POLICE FOIL EAST END BREAK-IN , QUESTION SUSPECT

Police were questioning a suspect Friday in connection with a rash of East End burglaries over the past couple of weeks, according to spokeswoman Sgt. Annette Raimer.
Police said the suspect was apprehended after a reported burglary-in-progress at a Nazareth Bay residence was foiled Friday by officers from the Mariel Newton Command and Special Operations. Officers pursued the suspect, and the chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a retaining wall at the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort.
One week ago, on Jan. 12, police reported more than a half-dozen burglaries on the East End, from Bolongo Estate and Bovoni to Vessup Bay and Nazareth. Earlier in the week, three burglaries were reported in Mariendal and six in Anna's Retreat.
At the time, police issued a warning to residents to make sure houses and apartments were locked securely and that surrounding grass and brush were cut to eliminate potential hiding places.
