Expansive New Arts & Crafts Marketplace and Cultural Center to Open on St. Croix
More than 30 local vendors will showcase their original artwork and crafts at The La Grange Marketplace, scheduled to open on Dec. 3. The arts & crafts marketplace and cultural center will boast an art gallery, museum, lounge and theatre, along with live music and entertainment. Numerous locally made products will be available. These goods are not duplicates of those already sold by merchants in downtown stores or vendors-making this marketplace one of the many unique experiences on St. Croix. Vacationers wanting locally made art, crafts, food, drinks, rum and more will find themselves in a shopper's paradise. The Cross, the only health food store on the island, is a family-run store brimming with bags of wheat flour, brown rice flour, soy-based protein foods and more. Shelves are lined with packages of rice cakes, pumpkin seeds, brown rice crackers, vegetable crackers and seaweed crackers, all rich in natural minerals. St. John Resort Launches Signature Program for Guests to Rediscover Their Sense of Self
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts' Caneel Bay on St. John recently launched the new Self Centre, a program exclusive to Caneel Bay that offers guests strategies for personal renewal. A registered nurse and educator for Dr. Deepak Chopra, renowned mind/body expert and author, heads the Self Centre. The program's premise is to teach guests methods for quieting the mind, deep relaxation and stress relief. Daily sessions on breath work, meditation, yoga and imagery are designed to enhance individual well being. The pristine natural surroundings of Caneel Bay are conducive to the tranquil aura of these group sessions, which are held in areas that capitalize on the sensory value of the resort's numerous beaches, open air facilities and expansive, lush grounds. In addition to daily group sessions conducted Monday through Friday, private sessions for individuals or couples can be arranged upon request. The Self Centre at Caneel Bay is available to all guests of the resort at a fee of $25 per session, per guest. New Restaurant Opens on St. Thomas
Marisol restaurant, specializing in Pacific Rim with a Caribbean touch, recently opened on
St. Thomas. Marisol serves such mouth-watering dishes as grouper with shrimp mousse, steamed in a banana leaf with sesame soy noodles; grilled beef tenderloin with grit cakes; ham and cheddar kallaloo; lamb or feta and tomato panini sandwiches with a cucumber yogurt sauce on the side and much more. Prices for lunch range from $6 to $13 for salads, sandwiches and appetizers. For dinner, appetizers are priced from $6 to $12, and entréées range from $12 to $22. The restaurant is open at 4 p.m. with appetizers and cocktails. Dinner will be served every night except Sunday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Starting Oct. 23, lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The restaurant will be closed Sundays until Nov. 16, when it will open for dinner only. St. Croix to Host Half-Marathon and Marathon
The Virgin Islands Pace Runners, a non-profit organization that arranges local running events on St. Croix, has announced the dates for two exciting events that are sure to attracts world-class competitors. This year the 26th Annual Virgin Islands Half-Marathon, held on Nov. 26, takes participants on a scenic run along the island's North Shore Road, starting and finishing at Carambola Beach Resort. Held on New Year's Day 2001, the St. Croix Marathon will start on St. Croix's east end, continue along the south shore and finish at Fort Frederik in Frederiksted. The Virgin Islands Pace Runners is a non-profit organization that organizes local running events on St. Croix.
