As of late Thursday afternoon, negotiations between the Turnbull administration and the American Federation of Teachers had taken a break as participants gathered more materials, according to St. Thomas-St. John Interim AFT President Vernelle de Lagarde.
The negotiations resume at 7 p.m. "There's no news now," de Legarde said, "We are continuing with the talks, focusing on the $11 million."
As to whether the issue of amendments totaling $22 million, which had been tacked onto the original $11 million legislation to fund teachers' salaries last week, had been broached, de Lagarde said, "We're working on what's at hand now."
De Lagarde said the talks would continue throughout the evening, and, repeating a phrase she has used several times this week, added, "I'm always hopeful."
