Finance Committee chair Lorraine Berry has subpoenaed 20 employees of the Internal Revenue Bureau to talk about shortfalls in the agency charged with collecting money owed the government.
Included in the list of subpoenaed IRB workers are director Claudette Farrington, 12 employees from St. Thomas and seven from St. Croix. Berry said the decision to order the employees to testify came from the Finance Committees majority.
"The directive to subpoena," Berry said in a release distributed Wednesday, "calls for testimony exposing management and operational deficiencies of the bureau."
She said emphasis will be placed on IRBs collection efforts, "the lack of which adversely impacts on the revenue stream of the Virgin Islands government and its operational budget."
The subpoenaed IRB employees are to appear at the next Finance Committee meeting, scheduled for July 6 in the Senate chambers on St. Thomas.
